Was supposed to be going there (when it was called Trivandrum) but after a LONG train jou got fucked off with it all and got off at Varkala half hour or so up the coast and stayed there for about 10 days.
Don't know how it is now but back in the day Varkala was lovely. Great beach below the cliff tops, unfortunately the locals have zero concept of what a bin is and the clifftop restaurants would just chuck all their shitty unwanted rubbish over the cliff. Old tables and plates, bottles, anything, chuck it over the fucking cliff.
Alcohol was illegal in that state when I went there but if you asked for a special tea they would bring out a tea pot
which they'd poured your beer into then the bottle got chucked over the cliff of course. Think you can drink now legally but it is highly regulated.
Kerala was (is?) the only state / country anywhere in the world to have a fully democratically elected Communist government.
All the Muslim fishermen were exceptionally friendly and fucking POOR and would shit on the beach right in front of you. Mind you that was pre 2001, might be different now but I bet they still shit on the beach.
Everywhere you go there is s cricket game of some sorts going on so I fucking loved that.
If I got reincarnated, which is all bollocks of ourse, I wouldn't object to coming back as a Sadhu. Those fuckers do fuck all, just sit around all day stoned off their nut, living the hobo dream they are.
If I ever went to that neck of the woods again I would want to go to Sri Lanka, they are funny as fuck rude gobby bastards who love to dish out pisstakes but only if you can give it back to them in spades.

been to Sri Lanka.
one of the best places I've ever been.
been to other parts of India but Sri Lanka is different. Very clean, no hassle. I guess it's because it's 80% bhuddist. great place highly recommended.

Go, unlikely you will stink the place out. India is the country with the highest number of people practicing open defecation, around 525 million people, although the Indian Prime Minister has just announced a toilet scheme which should bring some relief.

I've been to Trinidad 3 times, They share a huge oil field with Venezuela so they don't need tourists and it's mainly unspoiled.
Best beach I've ever been is Toco beach no one there feels like something out of Robinson Crusoe. North East tip of the island

Been there three times: Kovalam beach, Cochin, Backwaters tours etc. Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) is a very dirty town with litter everywhere, and people shitting at the side of the road.

Don't go to Trinidad It is a shit hole, The only decent beaches are miles from anywhere and all the hotels are in Port of Spain or San Fernando.There is a lot of crime and tourist are a target. The people are hostile and aggressive. The Indian population there could teach the Irish a thing or two about drunkenness, and both the Indians and black people could give training to the BNP about racism. A large percentage of the drivers are drunk. The women are as aggressive than the man and the police are very corrupt. On the roads it is very noisy and unpleasant with loads of cunts playing loud music.and horns blasting.
I've been there about 12 times and would not recommend it to anybody
